Empire manufactures American Hearth indoor and outdoor fireplaces, inserts, logs & burners, cast iron stoves, and mantels at the company’s two manufacturing facilities in Belleville, Illinois, just outside of St. Louis. The company has provided jobs to southern Illinois residents for more than 100 years – both in the original sheet metal shop dating back to 1911 and in the manufacturing facility that opened in 1932.
In 1979, Dane Harman, designed and built a stove to heat his home. It heated so well that his neighbors asked him to build one for them too. Dane agreed, and was soon so overcome with an abundance of orders, that within a short time, he outgrew the garage and decided to build what is now known as the Harman Stove Company
Miles Industries was founded in North Vancouver, British Columbia in 1977. At the time, public concern about pollution was mounting and Garry and Martin Miles, saw an opportunity to market natural gas fireplaces. This led to discussions with Valor Heating Ltd., a recognized industry leader and major British fireplace manufacturer in business for more than 100 years.
